Thermtip is our disposable temperature sensor for instant measurement of molten metal temperature. The sensor is a thermocouple of Type B, R or S depending upon the requirement of the customer. Type C and G are available on special request. The sensor is fixed to one end of a long paperboard tube in order to allow for easy immersion into molten metal. The length of the paperboard tube is customized according to the requirements of the customer. This probe is fixed to a lance to dip into the molten metal and the signal is transmitted by special cables to the Thermtip Instrument in order to measure the temperature of the molten metal.
Use of Thermtip allows steel makers to accurately and immediately measure the temperature of the molten steel/hot metal which in turn enables better process control. Ordering information for the probes is available in the catalog.
Acucast is a continuous temperature measurement probe intended for use in continuous casting tundishes. It is fixed to the Tundish through the side wall or the bottom wall and measures the liquid metal casting temperature throughout the casting sequence. In order to fix this probe into Tundish wall, a well-block is fixed in the Tundish refractory and the probe is inserted through the guide hole in the well block and retained in place with a special mortar. Continuous measurement of Tundish temperature offers many advantages to the steel maker:

In order to measure the thermocouple signals generated by Exatemp, Acutap or Thermtip probes, we offer a custom-developed Thermtip Instrument. The instrument is a rugged ARM Cortex M3 processor based measuring instrument and provides accurate, reliable measurements in all challenging conditions. The instrument is designed and developed in-house and can be customized to suit customer requirements. The instrument is capable of measuring Types S, R,B as a standard feature and other thermocouple types can be added on request. We provide several output options for Level 2 communications.
The parameters of the instrument can be controlled via a PC based app which communicates with the instrument via a USB port. All previous measurement data can also be retrieved via the app. Optionally, we also offer to customers the possibility of viewing traces of previous measurements via the app thus allowing convenient post-measurement diagnosis of any measurement problems. The instrument can be set to Thermtip/Exatemp/Acutap mode from the control app. Upto 2 temperature measurement channels in each instrument can be provided.
